Mary Lynch Barbera, RN, MSN, BCBA : The Verbal Behavior Approach:  Teaching Children with Autism
Drawing on her experience as both a parent of a son with autism, as well as a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA), Mary Lynch Barbera will provide listeners with information to help children with autism learn language and other important skills.  Mary will highlight strategies from her book:  The Verbal Behavior Approach:  How to Teach Children with Autism and Related Disorders, and provide guidance using the scientifically proven strategies of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) specifically utilizing B.F. Dorinne Davis, MA, CCC-A, FAAA : Sound Effects with Dorinne Davis
“Sound Effects with Dorinne Davis” will discuss how sound affects the person with autism.  Ms. Davis will share her expertise as the only person certified in all the major sound therapies, as well as invite other well known specialists in the specific fields of sound therapy to discuss their knowledge and experiences with the listener.

Doreen Granpeesheh, PhD : Unlocking Autism: the ABA piece of the puzzle
Introduces the numerous applications of behavior analysis in relation to treating autism. Guest presenters will provide information about the most current behavioral treatment modalities and suggest strategies that parents and professionals can apply toward the reduction of maladaptive behaviors as well as techniques to promote the instruction of new skill repertoires. Listener's questions regarding individual cases will gain useful and practical suggestions.

Gene Hurwin, MA, OTR/L : Autism Street:  Living the life of autism.
We will discuss autism in the context of our world today in Los Angeles:   Street violence, drugs, TV, emotional and physical abuses in the home and community.  How do we see our role in developing a safe world for the autistic person?  What is new in our communities?  What is the autistic person's future?  Is it a self-contained community?  Is it integrated?  Will the typical world ever permit the autistic person to take a lead role in government?  In the military?  Education?

Mary Joann Lang, PhD : A Beacon Towards Healing!
A Beacon Towards Healing! focuses on principles and values that will enhance the quality of life for children, adolescents and adults with Autism. The program will focus on several areas, including education, therapies, and emerging issues that will help parents and service providers better understand and implement paths to success. The program will cover a broad range of topics in order to address the array of challenges that the individual with Autism, the family and the community face everyday.

The first in the series will introduce the program host, Mary Joann Lang, founder and director of Beacon Day School and Beacon Autism Spectrum Independence Center (BASIC), in Orange, California. Later programs will introduce staff and service providers who will speak on a variety of issues. Another goal of the program will be on understanding the integration of thinking, learning and behavior for individuals with Autism. In addition, the programs will generally take a developmental perspective, given that there are significant issues at each stage of life that require attention and change.

Britt Collins, M.S., OTR/L and Jackie Olson : TRP Wellness OT
Britt and Jackie will go over everything occupational therapy has to offer children with autism and how parents can incorporate sensory activities into their child’s day whether they’re at home, school, or in the community. Working together with a child’s parents, OT, PT, etc., is a very important element.  This mother and occupational therapist team promotes constant communication.  They’ll also explain benefits of combining yoga with OT, Applied Behavior Analysis, and other treatments, such as aquatic therapy.  Guest OTs will include Dr. Angela N.
